notes from a Southwest Airlines terminal

notes from a Southwest Airlines terminal

by jturkin on January 10, 2011

I’m not one of those jaded folks who act like the slightest flight delay is the world’s biggest inconvenience. I’ve got my laptop (with access to hours of movies and tv shows) and a power outlet. This is pretty much how I spend my nights anyway.

The part that irks me, however, are the false “unsecured” WIFI networks. “Unsecured” meaning one doesn’t require a password for internet use. But I’ve tried four different networks, and so far, no world-wide-webs for me. Maybe I have misinterpreted things here, but “Free public WIFI” sounds like a free option for the public to connect wirelessly. Negative.

I’m sitting rather comfortably, watching an NFC playoff game. It’s an exciting game. Anything is more exciting than watch the elderly couple next to me baby-talk their two pint-sized shi-tzu children. Okay, I lie. That is pretty entertaining.

The terminal I’m sitting in is offering a free Southwest voucher and a hotel for the night for those willing to forego tonight’s overbooked flight to Seattle. If they offer it for my flight, I might just take it… but I miss my L.A. puppies.

It’s a hell of decision. Another night with my fiancee and the city I love VS. puppies… and my nephew.

Man. This is a toughie.
